Oral Airway Pressure
A new oral airway pressure device uses a triangular component that rests on the top of the tongue, with an orifice at its edge that is connected to a tube, which, in turn, is connected to a pump that generates light suction. “It’s a reverse CPAP,” he noted. “Whereas CPAP creates positive airway pressure therapy, this creates suction.” The results of one study showed that this treatment reduced AHI. “It doesn’t necessarily eliminate it like CPAP, [but] the benefit can last beyond the initial day of treatment,” he concluded.
