New COPD Subtypes Help Refine Risk

Key clinical point: By combining forms of information from CT, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can be classed into 10 disease subtypes with distinct risk profiles.

Major finding: The 5-year mortality was highest among the three subtypes with moderate to severe centrilobular emphysema (P less than .01).
