Antiviral Treatment in Hospitalized Persons with Influenza

Antiviral treatment among hospitalized children and adults with laboratory-confirmed influenza increased between 2010 and 2015, a recent study found. Using population-based surveillance data, the study analyzed the percentage of antiviral treatment among this group and found:
- Antiviral treatment increased after the A(H1N1)pdm09 pandemic from 72% in 2010-2011 to 89% in 2014-2015.
- Overall, treatment was higher in adults (86%) than children (72%).
- Only 55% of cases received antivirals on the day of admission.
