Next-generation sequencing can expedite surveillance/discovery of new bat coronaviruses
Key clinical point: A capture-based NGS approach using baits targeting most of the CoV species reduced sequencing costs by increasing the sensitivity of detection.
Major finding: Nine full genomes of bat CoVs were discovered, eight of which showed great genetic diversity.
Study details: RNA from previous bat surveillance samples was extracted from bat rectal swabs and analyzed using capture-based next-generation sequencing.
Disclosures: This study was supported by the Chinese government. The authors reported that they had no conflicts.
