Robotic and lap surgery achieve similar negative margins for rectal resection

Key clinical point: Outcomes of robotic and laparoscopic resection for rectal cancer are almost identical.

Major finding: Robotic surgery achieved a negative margin rate of 93.6% vs. 92.9% for laparoscopic resection (P = .22).

Study details: Analysis of 7,616 cases of locally advanced rectal cancer reported to the National Cancer Database from 2010 to 2014.
