Patients frequently drive too soon after ICD implantation
Key clinical point: Many patients who received implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) didn’t recall ever hearing about driving restrictions, and overall, about a third of patients started driving before guidelines permitted it.
Major finding: Of patients who received an ICD for primary prevention, 34% began driving within 1 week of implantation.
Study details: Survey, linked with national registry data, with 2,741 adult respondents who received ICDs.
Disclosures: Dr. Bjerre reported that she had no conflicts of interest.
