Work Outside the Office Visit

References

To the editor:

I much appreciated the article by Flocke and colleagues1 in the March 2001 issue that concerned addressing multiple problems during an office visit. I hope you will next tackle problems outside the office visit. In a typical week, I see approximately 100 patients and once logged 500 bits of nonvisit work (200 laboratory reports, 20 nursing home faxes, and the rest phone calls, forms to sign, prescription renewals, and so forth). I would do the study myself, but I have to go home and soak my tired brain. Perhaps someone else can take on the task.
