BMI and Coronary Heart Disease

What role does gender play?

The risk of developing coronary heart disease is the same for men and women with increased body mass index (BMI) across diverse populations, according to a cohort study of 1,219,187 participants and 37,488 incident cases of coronary heart disease. Researchers found:

• Higher BMI was significantly associated with age-adjusted coronary heart disease.

• The age-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) did not differ between the sexes.

• Similar results were found after multiple adjustments.
