Patients with ocular emergencies may be at risk for loss of vision; they may also have additional injuries or conditions that must be evaluated. The authors discuss eye-related emergencies resulting from chemical, traumatic, and infectious causes. The emergency physician’s role in history taking, examination, management, and referral is also reviewed.
